Cornhole Bags Speed Scale

Cornhole Bags Speed Scale

In the year 2018, Pro cornhole legends Steve & Jenn Vanderver were the first to design a cornhole bag without a sticky side. The Magic V was born and it changed the game of cornhole forever. Before the Magic V, every cornhole bag had a very sticky side and the second side was a twill canvas that really wasn't all that fast. Neither side of the Magic V was sticky; rather, both sides were a medium to a medium fast speed.

Thanks to the Vandervers and the Magic V, today we have slow, medium, fast and lightning fast bags. Since there are two sides to a cornhole bag, each side can have a different type a fabric that will perform differently.

Since we have all of these possibilities, the Speed Scale was created. The Speed scale is a 1-10 scale; 1 is the slowest/stickiest and 10 the fastest. Players can choose a bag depending on the way they throw. In order to take advantage of the two sides of a cornhole bag, you need to spin the bag so you can control what side of the bag is going to connect with the surface of the board. If you're throwing the bag like a knuckle ball with no spin, the double sided bag and speed scale will do nothing for you. The moral of the story is to spin your bags and never look back! Your goal is to have the bag spin through the air with the desired side of the bag facing down you want to connect with the board. In a future blog we will give you tips on spinning cornhole bags.

Currently Ward Boards offers five different types of bags. First, our Stick n Slick bag is 1/6 on the speed scale. The 1 side is the stickiest you're going to get. The 6 side is a medium/fast speed. This is the bag those new to spinning want to master first. Every level cornhole player should always have a Stick n Slick 1/6 bag in their arsenal. In golf a pitching wedge plays completely different than a 6 iron. Your stance, grip and swing will be completely different when using both golf clubs. The same in cornhole with a Stick n Slick 1/6 bag. This bag is very versatile and you can use these two sides in many game scenarios. The 1 side is great in low humidity and/or fast boards. If you're at the beach playing in the wind or you've had too many cervezas, the Stick n Slick 1/6 is the go-to bag because the bag will stick better to the board. Also, if you love to throw the airmail the 1 side acts as brakes and hopefully stays on the board if you miss your shot. The Stick n Slick bag made by Ward Boards can be made personalized with your logo and design ideas.

Next we have our NYC Token bag coming in at 3/8 on the speed scale. The 3 side is not sticky; just slow. On humid days and/or sticky boards the 3 side works well because sticky bags sometimes don't perform well on sticky/humid boards. In these conditions a sticky bag will come to a screeching halt and topple over. Even on sticky boards the 3 side will glide not stick. The 8 is a controllable fast side. This bag is ready to play out of the box and breaks in nicely.

Our NY Cornhole bag is a 4/7 on the speed scale. This bag out of the box is a bit stiffer than the 3/8. A great medium to fast bag. Not too slow and not too fast.

Ojos is our 6/8 bag. The same 6 as our Stick n Slick and the same 8 as the NYC Tokens. Great if you need a little bit more speed. Ojos break in really well and feels great in your hand.

Last the Mamacitas coming in at 6/10 on the speed scale. Same old 6 we know and love with an extremely fast 10 side. Great for hot, humid conditions or right after it rained and the boards/bags are wet. The Mamacitas are very hole friendly. If you can keep them on the board they will find the hole. Also a great bag if you're playing on boards that the hole wasn't routed. These bags find their way in the hole.

Each type of bag breaks in differently. Some players prefer the bags broken in a bit. Others like a bag on the newer side. It's all preference.

All of our bags are made in the USA. We offer free shipping on all of our boards, bags and merch. Typically our bags ship 5-7 business days. Keep spinning those bags!  www.wardboards.com
